On Saturday, July 11, the Fort Collins Cat Rescue had a fire at their spay/neuter clinic. Over $15,000 in damages was done to the building, and while it could have been much worse, they also lost their resident cat, Strut, to smoke inhalation. Insurance will only cover so much, and much of the little things they truly need to reopen is not covered. Over 8,700 cats and dogs have been helped by this clinic, a tremendous number in only a two short years!

I will also be offering commissions (price list below), and 10% of all cat portraits will go back to the Fort Collins Cat Rescue, benefiting both the shelter itself and the spay/neuter clinic that serves both the dog and cat communities.

Thanks for all who commented on my last entry. I really appreciate it!

I've resolved to finishing up the commissions I currently have committed to, and then take a break and just do some pieces for myself. This has definitely been a learning experience, and I've certainly seen an improvement in my work over the past few months! My drawing of cats and dogs had been minimal up until this point. I knew I could handle it, and I think it's gone rather well!

I'm almost finished with my commissions due before Christmas, and then I have the rework to do, as well as one more following, and then it's MENTAL BREAK TIME. Hopefully...unless I have another money crisis. haha

I think one of the worst things, particularly for a portrait artist, is to have a client come back and say they didn't like the work they received.

Today, I had one client message me that she absolutely loved her commission, and another...

...asked me to completely redo hers.

This is a conundrum because this is the third time I've redone this one. First, because his head was messed up, which I knew and fixed it, second because the post office got it wet and mailed it back to me, so I had to COMPLETELY redo it in the course of a night, and now it just wasn't what she thought it was based on the WIPs I sent her. The biggest problem is I consider her a friend...but I guess I'm a bit upset.

Now I offered to redo it in the note I sent along with it in case something happened, but I can't say I ever expected it to come back to me. Not sure what to think, do, or say.

Can't say I've ever had this happen before, but can't really vent about it in my other journal.

I'm going to redo it. I hope we can come up with a different pose and perspective, and I'll do it. I want this to work out, and I love all the positives I've received. This kind of thing makes me wonder, though, if the niceties were false and this is truly what people think.

I'm just not good enough yet.

I guess this journal hasn't been updated since April! Might be a good time to do that now.

I'm in the process of working on several commissions before Christmas. So there should be about 6 that will be posted within the next two weeks. Should be pretty intense, but exciting!
